  1. 01

Share shipment details & appoint an agent

Prepare your importer/exporter details, TIN and available shipment records. Uganda customs declarations are generally handled by an appointed licensed agent; URA describes limited self-declaration exceptions.

  2. 02

    Prepare and review the documents

Check commercial and transport records, together with any permits or product-specific certificates that apply.

  3. 03

    Submit the customs declaration

The appointed agent submits the declaration through ASYCUDA World, using the shipment information and supporting records.

  4. 04

    Customs review & verification

Customs reviews the declaration. Document checks or physical inspection may be required before clearance.

  5. 05

Settle applicable charges & obtain release

Any applicable duties and taxes must be addressed. Release depends on customs approval and completion of the required formalities.

  6. 06

    Coordinate collection & onward movement

Confirm the agreed collection, transport and handover arrangements. Keep the shipment and payment records for your files.

GET YOUR PAPERWORK READY

The documents
behind your shipment.

This is a preparation checklist. The required set varies by goods, origin, destination and customs procedure.

01 / COMMERCIAL

Invoice & packing list

A commercial invoice describes the transaction and goods value. A packing list records package contents, quantities and weights. Purchase orders or sales contracts may support the transaction.

02 / TRANSPORT

Carrier documents

Prepare the bill of lading for sea cargo, air waybill for air cargo, or other applicable transport record. Freight invoices may also be needed.

03 / FINANCIAL

Proof of value & payment

Have relevant receipts, bank transfer evidence and insurance records available where applicable. These may help support the declared transaction.

04 / REGULATORY

Permits & certificates

Depending on the goods, these can include a certificate of origin, conformity documentation, an import/export permit or a phytosanitary certificate. Confirm the applicable requirements before shipping.

Shipping in a shared container?

URA guidance describes individual House Bills of Lading and accurate importer details for groupage cargo. Ask your consolidator and appointed agent about the documents for your own goods.

PLAN WITH THE DETAILS IN VIEW

Understand the costs.
Allow for the process.

Ask for a quotation that clearly identifies what is included and which third-party charges are payable separately. The final arrangement is agreed with our team.

Questions worth asking

  • What does the service fee cover?
  • Which freight, handling or storage charges are separate?
  • Are transport and insurance included or arranged separately?
  • What actions and documents are still needed from me?

What affects clearance timing?

Document completeness, customs checks, permits, cargo availability and completion of required payments can affect when a shipment is ready to move.

Discuss an estimate for your cargo. A shipping arrival date and customs release date are different stages of the journey.

Keep payment records.

URA advises importers to retain responsibility for tax payments rather than leaving that obligation exclusively to a clearing agent.

CLEARING & FORWARDING FAQs

Know what
comes next.

Useful answers before you make your enquiry.

Is clearing the same as forwarding?

They cover different parts of the shipment journey. Clearing concerns customs formalities. Forwarding concerns coordinating the movement of goods. Ask which activities are included in your service.

Do I need a TIN and an appointed agent?

URA’s guidance describes a TIN and appointment of a licensed customs agent for clearance. It also describes limited self-declaration exceptions. Confirm the procedure applicable to your shipment.

Are all documents required for every shipment?

No. The required documents depend on the cargo and procedure. Product-specific permits and certificates apply to certain goods. Share your cargo description early so the requirements can be checked.

Can you guarantee a release date?

Customs approval and required formalities determine release. Speak to our team about a realistic plan for your cargo rather than treating arrival as automatic clearance.

Who confirms the duties and taxes?

Applicable duties and taxes are determined through the customs process. A service quotation should distinguish the work being provided from government and other third-party charges.

How do I request support from Semu Vision?

Use our quote page or WhatsApp. Include the goods, quantity or weight, origin, destination, arrival information if available and the documents you already have.
