THE CLEARANCE JOURNEY
Actual sequencing depends on the cargo, entry point and applicable customs procedure.
Discuss Your Shipment Prepare your importer/exporter details, TIN and available shipment records. Uganda customs declarations are generally handled by an appointed licensed agent; URA describes limited self-declaration exceptions.
Check commercial and transport records, together with any permits or product-specific certificates that apply.
The appointed agent submits the declaration through ASYCUDA World, using the shipment information and supporting records.
Customs reviews the declaration. Document checks or physical inspection may be required before clearance.
Any applicable duties and taxes must be addressed. Release depends on customs approval and completion of the required formalities.
Confirm the agreed collection, transport and handover arrangements. Keep the shipment and payment records for your files.
GET YOUR PAPERWORK READY
This is a preparation checklist. The required set varies by goods, origin, destination and customs procedure.
A commercial invoice describes the transaction and goods value. A packing list records package contents, quantities and weights. Purchase orders or sales contracts may support the transaction.
Prepare the bill of lading for sea cargo, air waybill for air cargo, or other applicable transport record. Freight invoices may also be needed.
Have relevant receipts, bank transfer evidence and insurance records available where applicable. These may help support the declared transaction.
Depending on the goods, these can include a certificate of origin, conformity documentation, an import/export permit or a phytosanitary certificate. Confirm the applicable requirements before shipping.
URA guidance describes individual House Bills of Lading and accurate importer details for groupage cargo. Ask your consolidator and appointed agent about the documents for your own goods.
PLAN WITH THE DETAILS IN VIEW
Ask for a quotation that clearly identifies what is included and which third-party charges are payable separately. The final arrangement is agreed with our team.
Document completeness, customs checks, permits, cargo availability and completion of required payments can affect when a shipment is ready to move.
Discuss an estimate for your cargo. A shipping arrival date and customs release date are different stages of the journey.
URA advises importers to retain responsibility for tax payments rather than leaving that obligation exclusively to a clearing agent.
